Along with the work we’re doing face to face with clients, we’ve been doing a lot more work online to promote EI clients using social media – partly recognized by the shortlisting for the Social Media Awards 2011.

Esther Ekhart always had a passion for yoga, and in 2003 the Dutch native opened a studio in Kealkill, County Cork, to teach yoga to people in the area. Not content with simply running classes, Ekhart and husband Bas Paul set up a website in 2008 where they post instructional yoga videos and blog posts and sell yoga DVDs to people around the world.

“I was running yoga classes in a pretty small studio, with ten people per class. I had such a big waiting list and I thought that things were going so well that I’d love to reach a broader audience,” says Ekhart. (more…)

Many SMEs are engaging with clients and customers via social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. These sites offer a cheap, easy and effective way for companies to communicate and interact with customers, build customer lists and disseminate marketing material.

In some cases, the benefits of social networking are intangible. For example, it’s hard to determine a return on investment (ROI) from having good customer relationships and maintaining an up-to-date online company presence. (more…)

Irish businesspeople are using Twitter in increasing numbers. The micro-blogging website has slowly built up a dedicated following in Ireland despite initially being ignored by most businesses.

Micro-blogging website Twitter has become a phenomenon with consumer and business internet users alike in recent times. The site is used by subscribers to publish very short messages, or ‘tweets’, that are no more than 140 characters in length.

Part of the success of the website is down to its ease of use. Users can ‘follow’ other members’ tweets and add followers of their own, building an online community. The potential benefits for business are substantial. Twitter can enable fast interaction with an audience that is interested in what you have to say (because they’ve signed up to receive your tweets), and it can help you to network with other members who you find interesting.
