Oracle OpenWorld 2011 is coming up fast – it takes place at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco October 2nd to 6th. Based on the feedback from the similar Microsoft WPC event in July, the quality of the potential contacts, customers and partners you can meet is excellent – not only for the US, but the UK , Europe and worldwide.

A number of Enterprise Ireland client companies are being offered the opportunity to participate in our “Best Connected” Ireland stand at OpenWorld 2011. This is the first EI participation at the event, so we will have a small scale participation in our 1st year in order to determine EI Client interest.

Competition for space on the Ireland stand at this show will be significant, and registration closes  Wednesday 31st August.  Places are being allocated to qualified client companies on a first come, first served basis.

Tell me more … (more…)

We’ve just spent the week working with the 13 Irish companies at the Enterprise Ireland Stand at Microsoft’s World Partner Conference in LA. That’s not counting the 20 or so other Irish Software companies that also attended the event.  It’s a big conference (about 15,000 attendees from around the world) and the quality of the people that we met was equally impressive.

From an ‘Ireland Inc’ point of view, what struck me how many people that knew about our current economic situation, but also how many people knew about the shining star that is the Irish Software sector. Invariably, these conversations were followed by a question ‘how can we help?’.

On a more personal note, I wanted to capture my thoughts on what worked, what didn’t work for the companies while it’s still fresh in my mind;

  1. Know why you’re going;  Going to an event like WPC isn’t cheap – a week of your time, even before conference ticket and travel costs. Be very clear about why you’re attending and who you need to meet.  Answers ranged from Market Research, to initial partner contacts, to seal relationships built online in the previous 12 months. We’re still working with the partner multinationals to get the best representation possible at the events . Your expression of interest will help shape the EI involvement, but doesn’t guarantee your place – we’ll let you know when the formal event invites come out.

Like many business, Enterprise Ireland depends on feedback from client companies to tell it what it is getting right, and what it can do better. Which is why I’m delighted to get the following feedback from Kelly Murphy, CEO of Gridstore, on the EI supported work that Paul Solski carried out with his company.

Gridstore provides next generation storage grid solutions that enable small and medium businesses to meet their ever increasing storage and bandwidth capacity needs seamlessly and less expensively than traditional systems. We see an opportunity to address a gap in the market that exists between enterprise storage and standalone network attached storage (NAS) by building a Managed Services Provider partner channel that can displace traditional storage systems in tens of thousands of small and medium businesses.
