Do you want to increase your tender win rates and win government contracts?

If so, then the two forthcoming InterTradeIreland “Upping Your Game” tendering events are for you.  These free half-day events will highlight the new public procurement opportunities for SMEs in a changing economic environment.  Companies will also benefit from practical advice and support from buyers and procurement experts on how to ‘up their game’ to win public sector contracts.

This is the first time that all the procurement and development agencies North and South will come together to make SMEs aware of the public procurement opportunities on the island.

Why should you attend?

  • Learn about public sector business opportunities from key buying organisations both North and South
  • Refine your tendering skills on the day – take part in interactive workshops and hear from other companies and their experiences.  Find about the practical supports available from agencies across the island for companies seeking to win public sector contracts.

The next Enterprise Ireland Social Media Club will take place on the morning of Friday, June 17th. The theme of this free seminar will be around the challenges of developing a “Corporate Voice” on the social web. For many companies this is the most difficult aspect of embracing social media: enabling the technology is trivial (anyone can create a Facebook Page), but figuring out what you want to talk about, and who in the company could and should say it, can be the downfall of many well-intentioned social media initiatives.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of good examples of innovative Irish SMEs who have dipped their toes into social media and lived to tell the tale: we’re delighted to announce that the June Social Media Club will feature a case study of how the team at TicketSolve (along with their partners at Steak) have harnessed the power of their staff as social ambassadors  to build a thought-leadership platform and enhance the reputation of the company. Malaysia spends $6.2bn on Software, Services and Hardware each year (IDC), and that number is expected to grow to $8.1bn over the next 2 years. With a population of over 28 million (Economist),and the use of English in business, Malaysia is a country that Irish companies find to be very accessible and we feel that more Irish companies should be looking to Malaysia as a market in itself- and as a base for regional marketing activities.

Even with these opportunites, it can be intimidating for Irish companies to start out in the Malaysian market. Which is why the Malaysian Irish Business Network (MIBN), in cooperation with us  Enterprise Ireland are  leading a business delegation of key Malaysian buyers and decision makers to Ireland on June 6th to 11th.

The mission will cover a range of sectors including ICT, Software, Telecoms, Medical devices, Cleantech  and Education. There are interesting participants joining the delegation and Enterprise Ireland will be involved in arranging individual schedules for the visitors during the week in Ireland to allow them to meet with Irish companies and explore opportunies.

More details on the people you could meet are below; If you’re interested get in touch via your EI  Development Advisor.

This is a guest post from Jack Downey of Lero. Jack will be speaking at EI’s Software Architecture Recovery & Consistency event in EI Eastpoint Dublin at 9am on Friday 27th May. For more details and booking for this free event, email Mary.Heasley[at]Enterprise-Ireland[dot]com.

Software architecture is the structuring of software systems in a manner that achieves desirable qualities (modifiability, improved performance, security) for its owners. However, particularly in respect to legacy software systems, an explicit architecture may never have been put in place. Even if an explicit architecture was put in place during system design, often this architecture is violated during implementation or subsequent evolution. The overall result is that there are many software systems without an explicit architecture, or with an implementation that is inconsistent with its designed architecture. In either case the ‘desirable qualities’ that could have been achieved are lost.

This Lero  seminar will present a number of strategies that can help redress these issues. Specifically, it will present a technique called Reflexion Modelling (and its associated prototype tool) which is aimed at recovering the architecture of software systems. Likewise it will present an approach (and prototype tool) that aims to heighten consistency between the implemented architecture and the designed architecture. It will illustrate the utility of these approaches by presenting case studies that we have performed at IBM Ireland and QAD Ireland.

Date: Friday, the 27th May 2011
Time: 9.00 am  -  1.00 pm
Venue: Enterprise Ireland, Eastpoint

Admission is free but places are limited.  If you are interested in attending this event please register by emailing mary.heasley@enterprise-ireland.com.

Along with the work we’re doing face to face with clients, we’ve been doing a lot more work online to promote EI clients using social media – partly recognized by the shortlisting for the Social Media Awards 2011.

Another step is that we’re now showing some of this client work  by  featuring Twitter messages from EI Staff on the corporate home page. Want to join the conversation? Follow the EI Staff on Twitter , use the #EntIrl tag and get in touch!
