Eli Lily is to immediately start recruiting for its European financial service centre in Cork city.

The new European financial services centre will support Eli Lilly’s European operations, providing general accounting, order-to-cash and purchase-to-pay activities.

Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher, welcomed the announcement.

Eli Lilly, which is among eight of the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical firms based in this country, started manufacturing pharmaceuticals in Dunderrow, Kinsale, Co Cork, in 1981.

Minister Kelleher said Eli Lilly has been one of the leading employers in Cork for almost 30 years and he was thrilled that they were set to increase their local workforce even more.

“The Government has worked closely with Eli Lilly to secure this investment in Cork.

“Eli Lilly is known the world over for their quality and innovation products. Cork people are also very innovative and the Cork management at Eli Lilly deserves great credit for securing these new jobs and seeing off competition from other sites all over the world,” he said.

Mr Kelleher also paid tribute to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation and IDA Ireland for helping to create the environment to allow the creation of the 100 jobs.
