Launching today is a new online resource directory for tech companies entering the US market. TechResources.us provides Irish technology companies doing business in the US with trusted and up-to-date information and connections to essential in-market resources, services and supports.  These include accelerators, professional services providers, networking groups, investors, co-working spaces, conferences, online resources and academic research centres.

At the launch Nick Marmion, Head of Software with Enterprise Ireland’s Americas team said:

It can be challenging for Irish companies to find relevant and trusted resources using an online search so we’re offering clients this tailored directory as a starting point.  The aim of the directory is to help Irish companies to understand and connect with the market before they even leave Ireland.

From there, Enterprise Ireland’s team in America can help clients to hone their market entry strategy and introduce them to the decision makers and relationships they’ll need to accelerate their growth over time”.

The directory was developed by MarketSprint, a market entry consulting firm based in New York and has been customised specifically to the needs of Irish technology exporters.

There are currently over 1,600 qualified resources in the TechResources directory and users can search by location, vertical market or resource type and refine their search using keywords. Directory entries are enhanced with one-click connections to key people or communities via Linkedin, Twitter, phone or email.

In addition to offering clients quick access to market knowledge, the TechResources directory encourages Irish tech companies to share their knowledge and expertise with each other.

As Nick explains:

Clients can use the directory to share their own favourite US resources, and they’ll get credit for doing so. This is an opportunity to create a community of Irish knowledge around the practical resources needed for US market entry.

Access to the directory requires a sponsor code. To get yours please email Request@TechResources.US using your company email address.

The International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media (ICWSM) comes to Ireland for the first time, bringing with it keynote speakers from Google, Twitter, the University of Oxford and other top research groups from around the globe. As part of the conference, ICWSM will host an industry and commercialisation event designed to bring delegates from local and international industry and academia together.

Ireland’s indigenous social media industries consistently demonstrate novelty and innovation in a competitive global market. At the same time, Ireland has also become a home to many of the largest companies operating in the Web and social media space. ICWSM will provide an opportunity to engage with the top international industrial and academic researchers in social media and to consolidate the view that Ireland is now a hub in which to do business and research in social media.

The event will consist of two focussed discussion panels interleaved with a coffee and stands session where industrial delegates can present their business or service, seek business and recruitment opportunities and exchange ideas with a national and international audience.

The first panel on business networking and enterprise collaboration will be entitled “I Want to (Net)work with You, But I Don’t Know What/Where/Who You Are”. Speakers include Connor Murphy, CEO and co-founder of Datahug (Datahug unlocks, measures and manages the hidden network of ‘who knows who’ within every organisation, automatically and within 2 minutes), Stuart McRae, Executive Collaboration and Social Business Evangelist with IBM, and Keith Griffin, Principal Engineer in Cisco’s Collaboration Technology Group.

The second panel on news and social media will focus on “News Generation and Consumption Through Social Media”. Speakers include Howard Mortman, Communications Director and member of the executive leadership team at C-SPAN (an American public cable television network that covers federal government proceedings and other political events), Gavin Sheridan, innovation director with Storyful (a team of journalists that separates actionable news from the noise of the real-time web), Paul Quigley, founder of NewsWhip (a site that shows the news that’s spreading fastest through social networks), Hugh Linehan, Online Editor of The Irish Times, and Hannah Waldram, Community Coordinator with the Guardian.

ICWSM runs from 4-7 June and will be attended by 300 of the world’s top social media researchers. It will feature a series of workshops, tutorials, invited talks and top accepted research papers from an interdisciplinary mix of computer science and social science research. You can register for individual workshops or tutorials on topics including sentiment mining, massive social data analysis, social media for the news industry and real-time analysis of social streams.

In recognition of the importance of the online market to export development for Irish SME’s, Enterprise Ireland is delighted to be associated with the IIA conference as headline sponsors.

The Irish Internet Association’s Annual Conference takes place next Thursday the 10th of May in the Aviva Stadium.  This year’s theme is “Building BRICS” and will cover three key elements for international business expansion in the online space – Social Media, Mobile and Localisation.

The following blog post from Joan Mulvihill CEO of the IIA gives us an insight to the focus and some highlights of this years gathering.

The IIA Annual Conference “Building BRICS” is really for everyone selling into international markets and particularly the BRIC countries. Unlike other web events, this conference is the not the preserve of the tech community. It has deliberately been designed to suit anyone looking to expand their business. For many, this will start with growing their online presence and using technology to facilitate that growth. It’s a perfectly engineered networking forum as its one of those rare opportunities where the providers and the consumers of the technology actually get to meet and exchange.

This full day conference is packed with the best in strategic industry issues and practical workshops, case studies and business guides.

The 2012 IIA Annual Conference takes place on May 10th at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

Here is the link to www.iia.ie/annualconf2012 for the full conference overview and all the details to book now.

We are delighted to welcome our guest of honour An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD who will address delegates on the valuable opportunities for businesses working across the BRIC markets. Other speakers include Sean O’Sullivan (Avego and Dragons Den), Sharon Walsh, Marketing Director of Heineken Ireland, Neil Leyden founder of the International Digital Services Centre and Deborah Lynch of PayPal.

And all the other reasons you should be there:

  • Come along and find out all the latest on the Open Ireland campaign – the skills challenge affects all businesses.
  • Hear all the latest on mobile advertising and payments – from PayPal, Ad2One and Yappy
  • Find out how a global brand, Heineken have used social media and mobile for the Champions League campaign
  • Learn how to manage Online PR and Social Media Brand Management through a dedicated workshop from global experts, FleishmanHillard
  • Learn everything you need to know to get started in internationalising your business – regulatory and business advice to enter new markets
  • Attend a masterclass on Digital Advertising, a full overview on metrics and managment of your advertising spend
  • Go to the masterclass on Social Search from Arekibo and find out the importance of social for search.
  • Challenge our favourite industry economist Constantin Gurdgiev, on the BRIC countries discussion panel
  • Find out exactly what it’s like to build your business in a BRIC country from people who are doing it – two brilliant case studies of guys operating fromBraziltoMalaysia, Middle East andRussia
  • Listen to the experiences of someone who has worked on the ground inChinafor two years as Denise McQuaid talks through her experience of working for Saongroup over there.

So as you can see this conference is relevant to anyone who’s selling anything anywhere. The internet is not just for technology businesses, it’s for all businesses who want to use the internet to optimise their business growth.
